"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15

Sermon Questions

Ever wondered how to help grow your teens' faith? We encourage you to use this week's sermon questions to talk about what the Lord spoke to you and our teens from Acts! "These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them..." (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

Acts 4:32-5:16 Sermon Questions:

Calvary Chapel Sermon QuestionsShare on Facebook

  1. The believers in Acts 4 "were of one heart and one soul" (v.32), experiencing a deep and intimate fellowship with each other that's rare in today's world. Do you have a heart of brotherly love toward other believers? Is your attitude toward other believers (within and without our church) at all judgmental? How can we foster a heart of true brotherly love to have "one heart and one soul" with our siblings in Christ?
  2. The apostles relied on the "great grace" of the Lord (4:33). Through this grace, they led and preached boldly, and they gave generously. In your life, do you rely on God's grace or your own strength to be generous, to be a witness?
  3. Ananias and Sapphira thought they could trick God by lying. How does our perspective of the Lord affect: Our decision-making? Our interactions with others? The "outward" way we live our lives? Our thought-life?

Digging Deeper:

  1. In Acts 5:3, Peter addresses how Satan tempted Ananias, but he also asks, "Why have you conceived this thing?" (v.4). We are all tempted, so how can we resist temptation and avoid sinning? (1 Corinthians 10:13; Hebrews 2:18 and 4:14-16; James 1:2-5, 12-15)
  2. Ananias and Sapphira "[tested] the Spirit of the Lord" (5:9), like others in the Bible (Exodus 17:1-7; Numbers 14:22). But we are warned not to test the Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:16; Psalm 78:18-31 and 95:9; Matthew 4:7). Why? What does testing Him reveal about: A person's heart toward God? Their trust in Him?
  3. Charity and generosity are a big part of the Spirit's work in the early church. Has the Holy Spirit done a similar work in your life? What does scripture say about helping the needy? (Proverbs 11:24 and 19:17; Matthew 10:42; Acts 20:35; 2 Corinthians 9:7; 1 Timothy 6:17-19)

"Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common." - Acts 4:32

Our weekly sermon questions are a tool and resource for parents to:
a) teach you how to engage your children spiritually,
b) help you foster growth in your children's walk with the Lord.

There is almost no way to overemphasize the importance of pouring into your children!

Part of that is modeling how we need to receive and respond to the Word. Our heart for this particular ministry is that parents will utilize it to fulfill our "theme verse"—Joshua 24:15, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." To do that, we believe they need to follow Deuteronomy 6:6-7, "These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them..."

Raising children to be God's followers requires that parents "walk the walk" themselves. But how do we show our children what it means to live the Christian life?

One way is to be open about what the Lord is teaching us, and sharing with our families about how the Lord is growing and changing us. Not only will this create a deeper bond between parents and children, but it is a way for children to talk about their own faith, and creates an accountability net within the home.

By creating this "Sermon Questions" series, we hope to help families foster that communication, and enrich the spiritual life of their families!
